Persistence

Keep going.

Panning right to left.

I tell myself this quite often. When life happens and circumstances get a bit more difficult I tell myself this. Raining when I have to cycle home? Keep going. Tough day at work? Keep going.

Didn’t hear back from that potential client? Keep going.

I don’t want to turn this into a motivational-warrior type post. The get up at 4 thing. The keep grinding even though you’re dead tired thing. There are merit in those things but this is not the post for it.

My thoughts on persistence this evening as the light rain falls down is related to photography. Keep going with the photography project. You might not be getting the great photos you have in mind but you’re learning. Gaining experience on what not to do with each press of the shutter.

The lonely apartment.

I don’t want to make photography a full-time job. But I want to do more photography. For that to happen I need more finances. Nothing in the “six figure” range as the hustle bros say. Just enough to cover some costs. Or to boost my savings.

For me to get my foot in some doors I have to keep knocking on them. Keep posting small adverts telling people I do X Y Z. Persist in what might seem mundane to me. Keep taking photos because its how I get better.

Sunday nights.

Persist with experimentation in photography. Edit (if that’s your bag) in a different style. Keep trying different things. It’s how you find out what works and what doesn’t.

We are, many times, our greatest critics. Enemies. Opposition. We stop ourselves from doing things which will make us more content. Which will make us feel better about ourselves.

Trust your gut – definitely. But don’t let it overthink. Don’t let it over-analyze. Persist with the small steps. Takes a bit longer but it gets your there.

Thanks for reading : )
