Leaving photos and zines.

I have had the idea of doing photography for a bit of extra income for a while. And on some days I don’t want to do it for money but just find some creative people who share my ideas or would like to bring their ideas to life.

Finding said people is often the difficult part.

There are a variety of options these days: reach out to someone via social media, email, post an advert, use your WhatsApp status. I have done these and have had little success. These posts do get some eyeballs on them but I think my audience might not be my actual target audience.

I’ve dabbled with zines once or twice but recently found this by Film Rick on Substack. Using this website you can create a small foldable zine which is a pretty great idea. It’s such an interesting idea that I started thinking about creating these small zines and leaving them or carry them with me.

PS – I also made a zine for some photos I took which you can download here

A few years ago I bought a photo album, A6, which I use to carry around some of my printed photos. I found this idea in a YouTube video. I haven’t used it much, for the intended purpose, but it is always nearby incase I need to show someone a few photos.

Long story short I decided to start leaving some of these images in places which I frequent. The first image I left at a coffee shop this morning was the one above. On the back it had my Substack & Instagram pages but I think future photos will only have a link to my website where people can see more about what I do.

I took my Kodak M531 for a ride this morning and below are a few images from the trip.

Captured at speed.
A traffic sign captured in front of a palisade fence. Photo in black and white.
Stopped.
A photo of a truck driving past a fence. The truck is slight blurred and out of focus.
Going somewhere.
A shopping cart, or trolley as we call them standing in an empty parking lot.
Empty.
A dog running alongside a makeshift fence.
Keep up with the black dog.

tl;dr

Leaving physical photos or perhaps a zine is a better idea than a digital advert. More emotion and better connection.
