Late Winter
R170,00
A quiet, isolated scene shaped by lingering cold and artificial light. Reduced to black and white, the image invites stillness — just the viewer and the photograph, uninterrupted by color or distraction.
Description
Winter may have ended on paper, but nature had different ideas. The chill in the air lingered as I waited for the exposure to complete, my attention drawn to the cluster of lights beneath the parking garage. At f/8, they take on a soft glow, each halo gently bleeding into the next. Using the 50mm lens I capture a little bit of extra sharpness which only the prime lens gives me.
Patience is rewarded as a car passes through the frame during the fifteen-second exposure. The line drawn by the lights feels like a bridge connecting the two sides of the image. Buildings on the left are first linked by the glow of the parking garage, the connection then reinforced by the passing vehicle’s trail. A lone window in the top-left corner looks out over the quiet light show unfolding below.
I’m drawn to this image for the sense of remoteness and isolation it creates. Converting it to black and white removes any additional distraction — leaving only the viewer and the photograph. Without color, the scene becomes more direct, more raw, and more honest.
