A chilly May evening, the final throes of autumn giving way to winter. As nights grow colder, the city quiets. Fewer people venture out, and the winter sky clears of haze — a perfect backdrop for a long exposure photograph.
Nine apartments.
Each illuminated window tells a different story: families sharing a meal, a couple watching a movie, friends talking over a glass of wine. Conversations about the day just passed, plans forming for tomorrow or the weekend. Different, yet the same.
Outside, a car passes. Its lights trace a brief path through the frame — 25 seconds of movement captured and held still. Subtle editing enhances the atmosphere of solitude and quiet mystery.
This image forms part of my Apartments project, an ongoing body of work exploring life as seen through lit windows on cold winter nights.
